Dane began his journey with ceramics at UCSB, where he was introduced to the groundbreaking work of Peter Voulkos, Paul Soldner, and other California clay artists. His path later took him to Vancouver for a year of study with Michael Henry, where he explored European and Asian ceramic traditions. Returning to Santa Barbara, Dane set up his own studio and founded the Gaucho R.E.C. ceramics program at UCSB. For more than 40 years, Dane has shared his love for clay with students and the community, while continuing to evolve and exhibit as an artist. You can still find him teaching at the UCSB West Campus Pottery Studio — enroll here.
